Do Volcanoes excite you? Our next trip takes you to the mysterious land of
40 volcanoes covered by beech forests getting into their autumn costumes. You will also have
the chance to admire a charming medieval village that hangs on the edge of a basalt cliff.
What is more, we have a surprise venue for you at the end of this trip.
We will start our volcano adventure with a hike across the Fageda d’en Jordá – a unique
forest growing upon a lava flow. From this mesmerizing beech forest our path will lead us to
the volcanic area. The first extinct volcano we will see here is called Santa Margarida with a
small Romanesque church standing within its wide circular crater. Afterward we will keep
hiking through the horseshoe-shaped Croscat volcano. The Croscat is the highest volcanic
cove in the Iberian Peninsula which had its last eruption more than 11,000 years ago.
After leaving the volcanic field of La Garrotxa we will travel to our next destination:
Castellfollit de la Roca. This little medieval village is one of the most photographed and
painted places of Catalonia. The basalt cliff on which the village sits is over 50 m high and
was formed by the erosive action of the Fluvià and Toronell rivers. The old town of Castellfolit
de la Roca has medieval characteristics and most of the houses here are built of volcanic
stone.
We finish this day at a venue that will be beyond all your expectations. We will show you a surreal secret park that even served as a movie set. This little park was built by Garrell, a self-taught inventor. If you like to take pictures, you are gonna love this eccentric environment with tall wooden huts and towers, wells and watercourses.
If you want to spend a day in this very special volcanic area surrounded by colorful nature, and you also like the medieval impression, you definitely need to join this trip!
